The Gazette / Emily's Honeymoon Comic of DOOM!
« on: September 13, 2013, 09:45:50 AM »
So, as I've mentioned before, I'm getting married this month (2 weeks to be exact) and it's becoming clearer that I'll need some filler for the week of my honeymoon.  As such, I turn to you guys for assistance! I'm looking for comic submissions to fill the gap during my vacation.  If you guys have some spare time and ideas, I'd love to feature you on my site!

Specifically, I'm looking for comics about what could happen on the trip, be it a normal romantic get away or an ambush by surfer ninja penguins or what have you.  I just need them to fit within a 700 x 1083 area.  I'm accepting submissions until October 3rd.  Thanks!

The Tinkerer's Workshop / ComiXpress Closes Its Doors
« on: May 17, 2013, 08:24:24 AM »

When I first looked into printing my comics years ago, Comixpress was the first place I'd found.  As much as I came to dislike their turnaround time and pricing, I'm sad to see them go.

The Artist's Studio / Rotating Light Table
« on: January 04, 2013, 10:57:00 AM »
This video came up in a G+ community today.  This guy took a ceiling light and rigged it up as a light table, then took a circular piece of glass and sits it on top for him to tape his pages to and easily rotate them while inking! I want one!

The Tavern / Holiday Promos
« on: December 05, 2012, 08:18:46 PM »
So, a couple of years ago I started making holiday cards to send out to friends, family, and any fans who provided addresses for me to send them to.  I just finished the design and placed the order for the cards!

I thought I'd extend the offer to you guys to say thanks for being such an awesome community to be a part of!  If any of you would like one, just shoot me a place to send the card.  Happy holidays, folks!

The Tinkerer's Workshop / Cheap 11x17 Scanner!
« on: November 29, 2012, 09:25:46 AM »
I just ordered an Xmas gift to myself last night and thought maybe some people here would like to know about it.

This all-in-one printer can print up to 13 x 19 (though the reviews that print quality is kind of grainy), but it can scan up to 11 x 17 at a hardware resolution of 2400 dpi.  That's twice as high as the Mustek scanner I was originally looking at (that I've found a lot of artists get because it was the cheapest thing out there).  The best part? It's $180 on Amazon right now, $20 less than the Mustek.  Even if you totally ignore the printing aspect, that's a HELL of a deal.

So yeah, hopefully a few of you will find this deal useful.  Enjoy :)

The Tavern / Seeing YOUR work around town
« on: August 23, 2012, 01:04:16 PM »
My friend pointed out the latest episode of TableTop on Geek & Sundry today.
Check out the shirt one of the guests (the president of Blizzard) is wearing.  Pretty sweet looking Alliance tribal design going on, don't you think (please say yes)?  A few years ago, my day job (a custom apparel company) had a contract with Blizzard doing shirts for WoW.  THAT is one of the designs I did before the contract ended.

Working in the apparel industry, I occassionally see someone walking around wearing something I designed and I get excited every time I see it.  My fiance' has to hold me back from running up to the person and being all "HEYIMADEYOURSHIRTMUWAHAHAHA!!"

Has this ever happened to any of you?  Did you see your book on the shelf of a bookstore and just squee at it?  Catch someone doing fanart of you comic?  Pass someone on the street wearing a shirt by you?

The Tavern / Otakon and a Discovery
« on: July 30, 2012, 10:47:29 AM »
So, I attended Otakon this past weekend and while overall, I was throroughly disappointed with the staff and organization, I had a wonderful time at the panels I attended and saying hi to a number of cartoonists hanging out at their tables.  I also managed to meet Peter S. Beagle (author of The Last Unicorn) and got a deluxe edition of the comic signed.  It's so very shiny and apparently was adapted by a fellow Gillis who I now need to find out if I'm actually related to or not.

As I was flipping through the book, I stumbled across the illustration section in the back and found one of the pieces was done by Isabelle Melanon, the artist behind Namesake.  I was just so excited to see an artist in the book who's work I was familiar with.  I'm not sure if she's on these forums (I know Megan is), but congrats on getting into the book and great job on the piece itself!!
