Webcomic Talk and Squee / Blink

Shameless DW references FTW. Chills went down my spine when i spotted the title in the RSS feed.
Mind, it is about time i go squee about Namesake (awesome reference or not), it's a great comic and i'd be hard pressed to find anything negative to say about it even if someone put a gun to my head as motivation.  If any of you haven't gotten around to reading it yet, you got a treat in store.

Ominous counter-reference

The Gallery / Clothing concept
« on: July 31, 2012, 06:38:40 AM »
I've been trying to cobble together a new outfit for one of our main characters, and after some back and forth, this is the most promising path so far (whatever i decide on, she'll probably end up with a couple similar things for changing between).  Any comments welcome, be they on things large or tiny.
The character's a teenager travelling through a fantasy world (medieval-esque, scattered magic, highwaymen, what have you), and though she started out unarmoured and clad for summer, she's learnt her lesson in both regards.
Does this look realistic?  Does it look suitable for travel and self defense?  Does it look nice?  Does it look <insert own descriptor>?

The Great Library / What you need for a Very Ambitious Comic
« on: March 16, 2012, 04:17:01 AM »
I wish i'd planned more before jumping into the comic i'm working on.  It's riddled with inconsistent designs and ramshackle layout, large parts lack backgrounds and so on and so forth.

Had i known then what i know now, i would have spent a lot more time on concepts, biological ponderings and character designs.  Adding a bit of research i could have avoided lutes that look like oversized pears, inns with cathedral-scale roof heights and ruined bows.

Now, i invite you all to share your thoughts: What do you consider essential to have prepared before starting the first page of a very ambitious comic?  What is good to have, but not as prioritized?

The Artist's Studio / Attempt at computer lineart. Eek.
« on: February 27, 2012, 09:07:10 AM »
I usually sketch and ink on paper, but considering how often i wish i could redo a line, i figured i'd give computer inking a try.  Then, if it goes well, i might avoid incidences like this:

So, grabbing a random pixie from my comic, bribing him with sweets to keep him from running off, i set out to give it a try.  Having no idea what i'm doing, i went with what seems to be the norm, putting some blue-lined sketches down first, and then inking over that on a new layer.  It didn't take long before i automatically settled into the working method Arioch pioneered:
I have one hand on the stylus and the other on the keyboard (crtl-z, crtl-z, crtl-z, crtl-z...).

Now, partway through, i figure i'll ask for some feedback.  I think i already know a couple problems, i should likely use a thicker brush, and i have no idea what i was thinking with his right arm.  But no doubt you people can spot more stuff.  Please, if you spot anything that looks dodgy to you, or have any advice on this process i'd love to hear your thoughts, whatever aspect of the drawing they might relate to.

(the widgets in the bottom right are just some tattoo references)
