Webcomic Talk and Squee / Re: Drink and Digitally Draw

Now i'm imagining a bunch of people hanging out and having fun seeing how hilariously badly they draw and what crazy things they decide to draw while totally sloshed...  Is that what it is? :)

Varethane might have a point, as Arioch said, *traditionally* lego was gender neutral, but all of us finding it weird it's supposed to be a boy's toy might have gotten ours before the toys and toy stores stores had turned blue/pink.  Parents and kids alike might easily be "mind-controlled" into thinking this is for me/you, this not.

Maybe i'm just weird, but i even balked when Lego started putting beards and lipstick and eyepatches and stuff on their little heads, instead of just two dots and a line for eyes and mouth.  When there is less detail, it's so much more reusable.  Take two opposing medieval armies, for instance.  Shove all the plain heads into one army - ok, no worries.  Then take the detailed ones and make the other army.  But wait... take out the one with microphones by their mouths, that doesn't fit.  Probably not the ones with makeup either.  That vampire isn't going to help you win, toss it out.  You end up with a smaller army, or whatever else you were assembling.

With Friends you have that up to eleven, it looks like.  It seems to have only 6 figures, all one-piece and female.  You can't even put a different miniskirt on one of them without breaking out the paint, from what I can tell.  I suppose you need some imagination with Lego, though, so with enough imagination perhaps you can still pretend Olivia is a scruffy pirate captain.

That said, naming characters, perhaps writing a little story about whomever is in a set along with the assembly instruction could do nothing but good?  Those who like a fun story might be inspired to set up a scenario around the character and think up additional ones from what other blocks and people they already have, while the ones who don't care to read it will be no worse off than anybody as is today.

This is the first i've heard of LEGO friends, though i remember shuddering and turning away when they introduced Belville long ago.  If it's being sold and used, and compatible with other lego, and not dumbed down, i don't suppose there's anything wrong with it (but does it have to be so pink, and heart-shaped?)
I am surprised anyone would consider lego focused on male customers.  My sisters, brother and i spent much of our childhood building small towns, dome cities, spaceships, towers, castles and anything else we felt like at the time.  They probably studied a bit more than four people, though, so they probably know what they're talking about.

That looks really nice, Ronin!  Very nicely posed and detailed.  I know zilch about paint, so can't help you with water vs oil, but hope to see more as it progresses.

Keep an eye on her page.  There are a few unfinished cards, so there's a chance there will be openings soon. Just keep checking back.

Another deadline passed, there are just 3 cards incomplete left.  She's said if they don't trickle in soon she might open up for a last mini-round.

Spoiler: (our card) (click to show/hide)

The Artist's Studio / Re: How Do You Background?
« on: November 20, 2012, 05:12:48 AM »
I second Thane's comment, with your background you might indeed know something that's so great.  I do love your backgrounds, they always seem to fit so seamlessly.
I do love architecture myself, but i never pursued that interest, so i know practically nothing about it, and that shows in what i draw.  It would definitely be interesting to read how someone actually in that line of work thinks when it comes to making comics utilizing it.

Very nice!  He does give away a lot of what's happened, but maybe that is needed to make people interested.  Congrats, Muninn, I'll keep my pseudopods crossed that this brings you the readers and glory you deserve!

The Tavern / Re: Favorite Horror Film.

If Alien counts as horror (and there are certainly valid arguments that it would), that is my favourite too.

The single most horrifying/transfixing movie I've ever seen probably has to be Watership Down. You might laugh (...)

Not gonna laugh; That is definitely no kids' movie.
