The Gazette / Chirault Kickstarter (the new one!)
« on: October 06, 2015, 07:41:45 AM »

Hey all! :D I'm Kickstarting the second collected volume of my webcomic right now, and so far it's going amazing! On top of the book(s) themselves there are some other cool rewards that won't be available after the campaign ends, so please check it out!

After the events of book one, Teeko and Kiran are no closer to finding a mage who could get Teeko unshrunk. Meanwhile, increasingly large and nasty monsters are coming from the dangerous lands to the west, and it's Kiran's job to stop them. That job may be starting to get too big for him, especially as his own powers start to escape his control.

(This book covers Chapter 6 through Chapter 10, and the introduction of Astrid and Bethan in larger roles! It'll be 230 pages long :O)

The Tavern / Major Wordpress security compromise
« on: December 15, 2014, 02:00:32 PM »
I know a lot of people doing webcomics use Wordpress, this is pretty worrying news: Some 100,000 or more Wordpress sites infected by mysterious malware.

The Tavern / So how about that new Star Wars trailer?

The Gazette / Chirault Kickstarter! :D
« on: November 03, 2014, 08:23:18 AM »

After being shrunk in a magical accident, a young girl needs help to regain her proper size. A demon-hunter who was passing by reluctantly agrees to assist her in finding someone who knows how to get her back to normal. However, the mages who might be able to help her are all occupied with a much larger problem: a dangerous artifact has been stolen from the powerful Mage Guild, and its thief has some dark plans in mind.

The campaign to print Volume 1 of Chirault is live! If you’d like to get a copy of the first book, some prints, original art, or a chance to cameo in a future chapter of the comic, please check it out! (There are some little bonuses in there that won't be available after this campaign wraps up)

Webcomic Talk and Squee / Secret Santas!
« on: November 01, 2014, 11:15:31 PM »
Hey guys! If anyone's interested in doing a secret santa-style art trade over the holiday season this year, there's a forum called Secret Santa for Artists that basically runs one; it's a very well-organized exchange, and no one's ever gone without art in the couple of years I've participated.

They're currently taking applications for the 2014 session, until the 15th of this month! The thread to apply is here.

The Tavern / Kickstarter now in Canada!
« on: August 05, 2013, 06:43:30 PM »
Not that I am necessarily planning to make use of this anytime soon, but other Canadian members may be interested in this (and I think it's pretty cool news): Kickstarter is now open to Canadian-run campaigns!

While it's still not open for the rest of the EU, it does seem they're definitely interested in expanding, so it may only be a matter of time. (:

Webcomic Talk and Squee / Webcomics Tarot
« on: August 01, 2012, 07:24:08 PM »
Webcomics Tarot is a project that was started up over 3 years ago-- the basic premise is, each card in the tarot gets drawn by a different webcomic creator, using imagery relevant to both their comic and the tarot card in question.

Initially it was limited to just one card per comic (with a maximum of two per comic in the case of a creator who made multiple comics); however, as it's been almost 3 years and the deck still isn't filled, a whole bunch of slots have been reopened and the rules for claiming a card have changed:

Quote
- You can claim multiple cards, but there are new requirements:

- Trump Cards (the 'major' 21): Comics with 25+ pages only and still updating; 1 per webcomic

- Suits (the 'minor' 56): a single webcomic [with 15+ pages] may claim up to two, in addition to one Trump Card

-Please briefly explain why you'd like a particular card when you apply!

- The new deadline October 31st, 2012

I figured this might be relevant to the interests of some here.... I did two cards back when this first started up however long ago, and am thinking about maybe trying for another (though I might lose one of the cards because the second comic I used to draw is no longer updating, woe :C )

So I came across this website earlier today: Gumroad. It seems to basically be a place where you can upload a digital product (like an mp3 or a pdf), and direct customers there if they're interested in buying it; the website handles all the payment stuff and apparently is very intuitive and easy to use, though I imagine it'd be less useful if you want to sell physical products like printed books or keychains or shirts or whatever.

Has anyone had any experience with this site, or websites like it? Would you be interested? Are there any drawbacks that jump out? I'm pretty new to the whole 'sell things on the internet' (as in, I've never done it), but it seems like a pretty neat idea to me...

Applications & Introductions / Introduce yourself!
« on: April 06, 2012, 03:04:45 PM »
So who are all you guys on here, anyway? 8)

Say hi and tell us about yourself!

I will start: I am an animation student/aspiring artist, and I make comics because I want to tell stories. C: I've been working on Chirault for about 4 years or so, and hopefully will be finished it within.... another 4 years or so <_<

I am a hopeless nerd for genre and speculative fiction and currently am hella excited for the new Legend of Korra cartoon, and Brave coming out this summer. Someday I would like to have a job doing art for video games or movies. :D

The Tavern / What kind of music do you listen to? :D
« on: April 05, 2012, 08:31:38 PM »
Because this was brought up in another topic, and I got home to see no one else had beaten me to starting it. B)

I know a lot of us will probably say 'a little bit of everything' (at least I know that's the answer I'd probably give), but try to pick out a few things that are currently your favourites. It can be music you like to work to, or just to listen to for fun.... anything! :D

Here are some of mine.... I tend too listen to a lot of ambient electronica, particularly the analog stuff-- though I do like some digital mixes as well (and I even enjoy listening to dubstep). Also a lot of movie OSTs, because I usually find them inspiring. C:

Boards of Canada: Dayvan Cowboy, Left Side Drive
Brian Eno: The Belldog
Tangerine Dream: Stratosfear
Two Lone Swordsmen: The Big Clapper
Unkle: Nocturnal

OST musics:
Tekkon Kinkreet: This City
A Series of Unfortunate Events: Drive Away
Daft Punk's OST for Tron Legacy (this entire soundtrack is AMAZING): The Game Has Changed
Two Steps From Hell: Freedom Fighters
Chrono Cross: Time's Scar

So, what kind of music do you listen to? :D

The Tavern / Character Q&A!
« on: March 24, 2012, 07:38:04 PM »
So I've seen some other webcomics do little extra doodles of characters fielding readers' questions, and I figure it could be fun to have a spot for people to ask each others' characters questions (you know, should you have any). :U

Answers could be in doodle form or just in words, no pressure here.

EDIT: I am adding a list of all the creators on these forums who are willing to take Q&As, with links to their comics! I'll continue to edit the list as new people jump in, or if I am asked to take people off. It is roughly in order of posting.

THE LIST:

Varethane | Chirault
Duskglass | From the Machine
Muninn | SpinDrift
Tiana | Between Places, Maker
BlkKnight | Crossing Death
T III | Fera
Keyake | HalfLight
Sly | The Prime of Ambition
Jadiekins | Lost Nova
Alien/Mith | Chasing the Sunset
Carabug | Play the Hero
Sky665 | Jackie's Story, Chester and Ferdie
Dragonaur | Dragonaur

Also, here is a list of open questions that have been posed to anyone willing to answer (this list will also be edited as more get posed):

Fold or scrunch?
If you had to make a charity to support a cause important to something not related to you, what would it be?
Favourite food?
What is the most embarassing thing that has happened to you?
Most people have a "vice of choice" whether it's caffeinated beverages or alcoholic ones or reading comics until the sun comes up and not getting any sleep. What's your addiction/vice?

Happy interrogations~

Events and Conventions / ConBravo (Burlington, ON, Canada)
« on: March 03, 2012, 01:00:31 AM »
(Also no official write-up, so I will write it myself!)

This one is technically open to all genres and fandoms, though in practice it's more of a gaming-oriented convention than anything else... however, that's not to say that it's unfriendly to comic artists! It's a smaller and quite new convention located in Burlington, Ontario, and has been pretty successful so far.
