Share your finished art! :B
« on: February 21, 2012, 09:28:12 PM »
Thought I'd make a thread corresponding to the WIP thread, but for finished works. C:

Post anything here that you're proud of, whether it's related to your comic or not!

I suppose I will go first!

I don't make a lot of fully digital pieces, but recently I have made some things I am pretty happy with. :B

This one isn't a specific character and it's a bit different stylistically from most of my art, but it was a fun bit of experimentation and I like how it came out.

This is my second experiment with this style of texturing.
(The character on the right is Varethane's!)

Third. I'll post something traditional as soon as I make something new!

Awesome work guys, if there was a piece of art I did that I'd be proud of it's an animated opening I created for my webcomic solo. Hope you like.

Awesome work! I wish I had an animated opening for my noir comic Killjoy.
Coolness.

Duskglass: These are great! I especially like the first one, so dark and dramatic. Are these entirely digital?

Arioch: These. Are. Cool. And the first one, just... wow, the detail.

Ronin356: Awesome! Very intriguing scene, and the girl with the purple hair looks badass. :)

jazylh: Amazingggg. How long did that take you?? That transformation scene around :57 is killer. Haha I wish I had an animated opening too. XD

I honestly don't do finished pieces enough, but here are a few recent things (hope they're not too big >_<)...

Yep! Lines in paintchat, colour in Sai.
You did some pretty neat things with the lines in your second and third. c:

(it's interesting to see people's different definitions for 'recent', hahaha.)

Here's a couple more:

(this one was for Varethane!)

Wow, I would never have guessed. o__o It looks like traditional ink. And thank you!

LOL I seriously haven't done a ton of finished art lately (sans comicking). Those are my most recent pieces. Though the last was done in the last month or so? :B

That's a big compliment for me xD My traditional inks are generally so much better than my digital ones (though this inking style is a lot closer to my traditional inks than any I've done before).
(The technique is completely different though, since no digital tool I've used has even come close to the look and feel of a brush-pen-- The linearts were painted in black and white on an opaque white bg, as opposed to being lined on a transparent one... ie, I didn't use an eraser at all, but rather a white brush to shape the lines.)

Understandable! Sometimes you have to put other things first... but some people post things from two years ago, while everything I've posted in this thread so far is... less than a month old............. 8D;;;
(my priorities are something like: don't fail school > art > sleep > any homework due after tomorrow. so I end up making a lot of art. xDD )

Ohhh interesting! Haha, I don't have the confidence to work on an opaque layer. XD Though it certainly worked well for these pieces, they turned out great! And yeah, I know what you mean about digital tools not quite achieving the look of a brush pen. I was a huge fan of traditional inking, but use digital since it's faster. But I feel like I'm constantly fighting to get my work to look the way I want.

Oh haha! Yeah sometimes I'll just show off whatever looks nice, regardless of age. ;P LOL ahhh I remember the art school schedule well. Haha, wish I'd utilized the time since graduation better, back when I had absolutely nothing to do. Strangely I'm only motivated when I don't have a lot of time to work with...

Yeahhh me too. D:
(I'm not actually an art student though!)

For me, traditional inking is a lot quicker (or at least it feels that way because I enjoy it more). It's definitely easier, and I worry less about mistakes. With digital I feel like I'm fighting the medium, doing over every line several times, constantly reshaping them.... (One of the main reasons I like opaque inking is that I can just colour-pick without having to go to the toolbar to swap tools. That, and the fact that pchat lacks a decent eraser to correspond to the pen tool....)

.....I feel bad making posts in this thread that have no art in them. :X
Here is a slightly older thing, and also the picture I made my icon from!

(same two characters as in the portalhopping-silhouettes picture!)

Pictuuuuures :'D (And yes, opaque inking is THE MOST FUN)

Here are a couple things from my sketchbook (both marker, top one has some watercolour in it too; bottom one has a texture thrown on in PS)

Both from stories I want to turn into comics :'C

Yep! Lines in paintchat, colour in Sai.

OMG. That's colored in SAI? Fan-Friggin-Tastic. I use Sai for line art all the time, but seeing this makes me feel so insignificant lol. You truel;y are Amazing

To nilaffle: Loving that pose. Is the character from a comic of yours? And about the intro, took me a good three months to get it complete & yeah that transformation sequence consists of 57 unique frames & took me 3 days to conceptualize & complete. It worked in the end tho, so all worth it. :)

To verathane: Get those comics started. You have my undivided attention. Loving the concept & art.
The Beast Legion - Fantasy & Adventure, Dragons & Beasts...name it, it's got it!
