The PodCast Library
« on: February 13, 2012, 09:16:32 PM »
Besides all the millions of blogs, books, and tutorials out there , there is one resource that has helped me a lot when starting a webcomic, "Podcasts". I like them because it is something I can listen to while at the office, on the train, or at home working on my own comic ^__^ I find they keep me motivated and connected to the webcomic community.
So I wanted to collect a list of podcast episodes on this thread that are relevant to long format/and or fantasy comics (this includes interviews of fellow fantasy creators) so please recommended!

PaperWings Podcast (and blog)
Lorra Innes (creator of The Dreamer) and Chris Oately (Disney Character Designer)
This is the only podcast i know run by professionals (and features a host who has a long format comic), good advice on story writing and the business side of comics.
Interview of Lora Innes of The Dreamer

How to make money from your comic part 1
http://www.paperwingspodcast.com/2011/10/pwp-15-how-to-make-money-from-your-comic-part-1/
How to make Money from your comic part 2

How to Write Engaging Comics
http://www.paperwingspodcast.com/2012/01/pwp-19-how-to-write-comics-that-engage-your-audience/

Webcast Beacon
(huge archive related to webcomic creation and interviews- but much of it is strip comic focus)
Reccomended List for New Listeners:
http://www.webcastbeacon.com/new/
They Have  a weekly newscast that covers news in both digital and print comic industry
There are over 200 episodes that I haven't sorted through yet for fantasy creators interviews, im sure some are buried in there

Webcomic Alliance (podcast and articles)
http://www.webcomicalliance.com/
This podcast has a roundtable of comic artists that discuss problems and challenges they face when creating and promoting comics. Interesting and sometimes insightful but sadly all the perspectives are from strip comic creators.

TGT (Two Guys Talking)
A huge archive of Interviews with webcomic creators, I think these guys have talked to almost everybody on the internet by this point.
http://tgtmedia.com/archive/
I haven't had a chance to listen to all their shows yet so if something stands out I can link it here.

Digital Strips
webcomic reviews
http://www.digitalstrips.com/

Gigcast
Haven't had a chance to hit their archives yet (webcomic reviews)
http://gigcast.nightgig.com/

Im sure there will be creators in this community who have done interviews on podcasts, so please don't be shy, we can make a list here for us all to listen and learn ^__^

Webcomics Weekly http://ww.libsyn.com/
Hosted by Scott Kurtz of PVP (focus on strip/humor comics but very entertaining and sometimes controversial)

List O' Interviews of FCP members)

Jules Rivera-On TGT Media
Fera- Here  and On TGT Media

Great post, CMorgan. I've tagged it as an article which ... well.... doesn't really do anything yet, but in the future there will be an article library or something ...

Back to topic: I've never been invited to a podcast :(

Probably for the best though, since I hate the sound of my own voice :)

When I have time I will try to organize the post and compile a good list of interviews.
I wouldn't be surprised if you get an invite to a podcast someday, most comic creators I follow get invited if they have been around long enough or attend enough conventions ^____^

We've been around for 9 years! :P

No conventions though ... they're a bit thin on the ground in Belgium

@Mit- that surprises me! Your years of experience would probably make a really great show!

I started compiling a list if interviews (sooo many to sort through). Im kinda wondering If i draw the line at traditional fantasy webcomics or include SciFi creators as well. (i consider Scifi as fantasy but maybe thats not the case). Also, Horror comics?

cmorgan: well I'm hoping the community here can cater for both fantasy as scifi. In my view, scifi is fantasy with technology replacing magic. The same "problems" exist for both scifi as fantasy comics: longform, story based works of fiction with a whole word to create.

I've been somewhat playing with the idea of doing a podcast series for the fantasy comic portal, once we're a bit bigger. Might be fun.

I like that idea, would totally be willing to listen/participate in that podcast.

I listen to the Webcomicbeacon weekly and so far they've had fantasy creators on there, but no show's specifically for fantasy comics.  I think the funniest one so far is the one entitled, "Fes is a whiny baby."

Creating websites is like casting magic... it takes time to learn how, and as soon as you do, you need to learn all over again.

The "Fes is a whiny baby" show was hilarious. But he had a good excuse, Id be really upset if jerk wrote up a mean review about my comic.

I think a podcast fantasy show would be gold. I think the webcomic beacon may have it on thier to-do list. I should send an email and suggest all you guys as guests, Muhahaha. Would be good exposure for this new community too.

I think, "He who shall not be linked" isn't doing that review site anymore.  So he has less to be whiny about.  That was a horrible idea for a website and I'm sure that there are many an artist out there that are glad at least one troll was turned to stone by the sun.  No one should ever make a site devoted to spreading hate around.  Except Encyclopedia Dramatica... that's the most entertaining train-wreck ever.

I think that would be a perfect place for Mith to promote this site.  You should totally suggest that to them.

I've only ever been on two podcasts. One was "Webcomic Reviews and Interviews" - which has never been posted online as far as I'm aware.

The other was TGT Webcomics: http://tgtmedia.com/podcast/ep183-davyshirley/ which was good fun, and Tom Szewc and Michelle van Zandt co-hosted.

Oh and I was once interviewed at a convention, I've never watched the video, but I've been told it's ok. I know for a fact that I fluffed up my pitch for Fera - but then again it was recorded late on the last day of a 3 day event, and I was exhausted. http://youtu.be/5GzB3sUpDf4

And I guess there's the panels that me and Peter Vine did for Reef, if that counts, but it was all text based for us I think.

Ooh interesting post! So far I've only listened to the  Digital Strips ones. I do follow a Dutch podcast which is quite fun, but I don't think it's of much help to the rest of you... as it is in Klingon..I mean.. Dutch.

as it is in Klingon.

bIjatlh 'e' yImev
tlhIngan maH!
Hab SoSlI' Quch!
nuqDaq 'oH puchpa''e'
Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam

These are the only Klingon phrases that I know... except for Qapla' ... our physics teacher at school was a Klingon cosplayer - apparently the free booze made it more fun than science officer.

Found a fun show http://nerdofadvice.com/ - Its not a webcomic podcast but one of the hosts is a creator and she talks a lot about conventions and stuff. But its basically a podcast for nerd advice on how not to be akward- its pretty hilarious.

Con season is here! PaperWings just wrote out an article on what to do if a Comic Podcaster comes over for a 60 second interview!
http://www.paperwingspodcast.com/2012/04/artists-alley-interviews/#more-761
This ties in well with their earlier post "The Common Flaws Of A Comic-Con Pitch"
http://www.paperwingspodcast.com/2012/03/comic-con-pitch-flaws/

If anyone is going to C2E2 in Chicago you may want to hit them up with a message b/c they are looking for creators to talk to ^__^

I was interviewed by The Geek Show at Sunny Con a couple of weeks ago. From what I recall it started off talking about Fera, and my new comic The Editors. Then talking about art styles, which led to talking about drawing realistic women rather than Escher style women, which led to talking about boobs and boob armour and why it's bad... oh and we said bad things about 4th edition Dungeons and Dragons.

The podcast also includes interviews with:
Tab Kimpton
DestinyBlue (Alice DeSteCroix)
Sonia Leong
Christopher Sabbat (voice of Vegeta from Dragonball Z)
Veronica Taylor (voice of Ash Ketchum from Pokemon)
Jenika Ioffreda
Gina Lucia

Interview is on their broadcast here: http://thegeekshow.co.uk/blog/2012/04/06/tgs-s04e13-sunnycon-special/
